4 Free Ways To Support Photographers During Coronavirus Pandemic

Let’s talk about four free ways that you can support photographers and small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. Each task will take less than 10 minutes to do and can help the self-employed freelancers in your community during this hard and now slow time.

1. Write a review. If you’ve ever booked a photographer for their services take 10 minutes to email your photographer a written testimonial that they can then use for marketing. Typically, you want the review to be about 7-10 sentences long. Include not only that you loved the end result (the photographs) but talk about the experience you had in front of the camera. Bonus points if you post the testimonial to their Facebook business page or even on your Instagram story.

2. Refresh your social media with the photos they took for you. This could be a simple Facebook throwback post or updating your profile picture. Don’t forget to tag them in the post + caption, and maybe even write a few sentences on how you felt during the session and why you had the photos done.

3. If you're the photographer, Instagram story shoutout some of your other favorite photographers. Take it one step further and DM a few of your favorites to see if you can exchange shoutouts. Win-win! Shoutouts could look like a screenshot of their feed + why you love them, or it could be a 2-part Instagram video of you talking about what makes them special to you. This is a great way to get accounts circulating. Don’t forget to include where they’re located so followers in their area can book them, and visa versa.

4. Here's another for my photographers. Join into my photography Facebook group (it's free!) and answer some questions from fellow photographers. There are tons of posts (edit: thousands) asking for constructive criticism, advice about a difficult client situation, and asking for gear recommendations. Scroll thru and see where you can help! You can join in by clicking here.

Almost any small business can apply these things, too! If you recently got your hair colored, drop a review on your hairstylist's Yelp page. Purchased something off an Etsy store last month? Review their page! Round up your favorite small businesses in your local area and share about them on your IG story.

Feel free to share this blog post on your social media to spread the word in your circle.
