Personal Branding Photography Tips and Posing Ideas | Girls LOVE Travel
Personal branding photoshoots are one of my absolute favorite subjects to photograph. If you couldn’t tell, I love shooting them. Like, a lot! In this video tutorial I had the oppertunity to collaborate with Haley Woods, the founder and CEO of one of facebook’s biggest community groups, Girls LOVE Travel®. With almost one million members in the group, this community supports and focuses on female travelers. Haley and I met at the Institute of Code in Bali, Indonesia at their social media bootcamp in November 2019. I was there teaching as a mentor and was low-key starstruck when I met her.
I am sharing a short + sweet video tutorial on personal branding photography tips. It’s full of inspiration and posing ideas for your next shoot, and a lot of tips and details to look out for! These tricks can also overlap into other types of photoshoots…even wedding photography!
Before you dive into the video there are two important things to note:
Preparation is key when it comes to personal branding photoshoots, not only for your client but for you as the photographer. Ask your client before the session to send over their current brand assets. Don’t just study their colors and style guide, but learn the voice of the company so you can reflect every aspect of the company accurately.
This is not content creation and you don’t have to get crazy creative or conceptual with your photos. Your client isn’t going to be disappointed in you if you don’t have them do a handstand. Variety and lots of room for cropping is vital to this style of portraits. You want to leave as much white space and room for text as possible. Don’t get caught up on having dozens of different types of crazy poses: this isn’t content creation they’re gonna blast thru for Instagram posts in a week. Devote your time to nailing the practical images that they will be using across Facebook ads, Instagram stories, hero images for the website, and more.
GEAR USED: camera / lens (nikon) / lens (canon)
This lens is my top favorite pick for branding photoshoots, indoor and outdoor with natural lighting. Watch the video to find out why it’s the best!
